tanks by the erection of a wall of considerable height, for the purpose of storing coal for supplying our own and other steamers

with fuel from alongside the wharf. At present steamers are

compelled to coal from lighters, and it would be a boon to the

trade.of the port, and to our own boats in particular, if we

are allowed to use the pier which we have erected at great

expense, for the purpose of coaling steamers.

We can assure you that except from competitors' jealousy

there is no reason whatever why such permission should not be

given.
